I don't know about this. A huge part of Springsteen's early work is almost the definition of New Jersey in the 70's.
If anything, Springsteen was such a defining artist that his lyrics almost created a reality. Those first few albums informed how people view that region and time period to this day.
To me, that's extremely authentic. If Springsteen was less authentic it's in the mid-80's and beyond when he was still singing working man struggle songs after he achieved wealth and fame...but that's not his prime and it's hard to avoid for any artist.
