Also the OP fails to point out two things…
Trump is NOT a conservative.
Trumps 2016 Farm Bill is what made all these items legal in places like LA in the first place. Downvote away, but both points I made above are true.

Yeah, there's a huge difference between edibles and smoke. Seems like smoking in public spaces could be regulated regardless of what's being smoked.

You can smoke those? Get the smokers to use them and you might get some of us people that arent users to swing back your way. I was on the legalize train even though Im not a user, but the smell everywhere is yucky.

Pressly argued the bill will help keep children from consuming the hemp products containing THC. Consumable hemp products are currently legal in Louisiana for adults.

Again, very non-conservative perspective.
Conservatives do not want government to "fix problems." They want government to ensure freedom and for individuals to fix their own problems.
I would rather they only meet once every five years, but if they are there.... do something productive.

Those aren't good reasons to make something illegal.

Bill is funded by the alcohol industry.

This country has far greater concerns in 2024.
I think this is the rub. A lot more important things to take care of and our politicians are worried about pot. How about they fix the problems their constituents actually care about? Like fentanyl, illegal immigrants mooching our tax dollars through welfare benefits, and infrastructure.

It's a pretty good reason, to me. Or driving down the road stuck behind a couple stoners with smoke billowing out of their car.
Regarding this particular bill, i don't care either way. But i do support a ban on smoking pot in public, if that were ever to arise. Sure it's not "small government of me" but it's more of a public decency thing. Let's just not all be trash?

An argument can be made they are linked, though probably not a strong one.
I get the "it's just a plant" and "let adults choose what to do with their body". But on the flipside of that, look at these wonderful inner cities, and places like California. No drug is illegal. And now you have zombie hordes shitting in the streets. It all starts somewhere. And before the next person says, "but that's not small government", well legalizing every drug may be "small government" but look how well the results are working when these big government democrats enact these "small government" policies like legalizing drug use.

"I don't like it" will never be a good reason to criminalize something.

Driving impaired would still be illegal.

You have your work cut out for you if you plan to legislate people out of being trashy.

I’m assuming you feel the same way about cigarettes. Let’s make them illegal next. Then alcohol.
If we're going to ban products that actually don't kill people, might as well ban the ones that do kill people, right?
Go look at my thread on tOT regarding this. The defense for this bill is utterly insane. You want to keep children from getting the stuff? Don't fricking sell it to them. Be a better parent. No one is up in arms at the fact that EVERY seltzer can on the shelf right now is gears towards youngER people to buy and loaded with crap in them.
GOP is all about *small government* but there is nothing small about what they've done as of recent. Gatekeeping porn, banning THC products, attempting to limit sunshine laws, give me a goddamn break.

Therein lies the rub. We have people wanting libertarian freedoms (which I completely understand) while we still have socialized consequences.

I'm still amazed at how many "conservatives" hate personal freedom. The majority of companies that provide hemp products are small businesses, so now Republicans are for pushing small businesses out of the market.
The only people against this are against it because they personally do not like it. Forcing others to conform to your beliefs is what authoritarians do. The sad part is that there are so few people in this country that actually support freedom. Republicans on this board constantly talk about how the left says "I don't support that so you can't do it" while claiming the right "doesn't support that but supports your right to choose." In reality, both sides just want to be tyrants.
Banning CBD and hemp products is retarded. These products are better than the pain meds, sleeping pills, etc pushed by big pharma. So now in their attempt to "stick it to potheads", "conservatives" are giving more power to big pharma. Republicans are great at shooting themselves in the dick.

Legalization has not proven to be a positive for society anywhere it has been done.
A lot of people would argue that religion has not proven to be a positive for society. If this is the measuring stick you want to use, you're going to be severely disappointed.
The whole issue is whether you support freedom or not. You clearly don't.
