My last three cars had keyed lugs, and I doubt they were aftermarket

My truck had them from the factory as did my wife's old Accord. After being burned with them once, I removed them all. They are more trouble than they are worth.

You are far more likely to get stuck on the side of the road than have your factory wheels stolen.

Any chance one of these will work? Put the extractor or whatever on it, and whack it with a hammer? They've gotten me out of a few jams when a regular impact wouldn't do it.

Add a little heat to help loosen it. That's how the dealer removed mine when I broke the little socket key gizmo.

Go to an independent tire shop in a not so respectable part of town. They’ll charge $20–$100 per tire. They’ll be done in about 20 minutes

Sounds like you should have towed it to a tire shop

Can’t get your nuts off old boy?

Go here, they’ll get it done or die trying.

Looks like ORielly has a match. Going to try that in a bit.

I bought a few from Lowes knowing that I was going to toss them afterwards.

That is what Harbor Freight is for.

Yeah, I bought the cheapest ones I could. I don't remember if this was at night or whatever. Don't do this with Craftsman or SnapOn

You can't even get the damn lug out of them afterwards most of the time.

How do you buy a car and not notice if it has keyed lugs?

Do you even inspect, bro?

Been trying that, but it doesn't bite enough. Even got it where it was seriously biting with the pneumatic and then switched to a hand ratchet and it eventually slips off without pressure pushing in on the tool.

Do you have one size, or several options? Quality tool? I have a Snap On set that has removed 95% of the locks I’ve tried to remove, but occasionally I get one that just won’t. At that point, hammer and chisel is about the only option. You may chisel a couple of spots around the lock, where the tool will then bite it, or you may have to just keep working it loose with the chisel. It’s very hard to do without damaging the wheel.

I put the lug nut in a vise, and loosen the tool off of it.
Usually works.

Then to get the nut out you have to throw the socket, with the stuck nut, on the concrete real hard. Should pop out.
