While I'm sure a lot of this is driven by social conservatism given the bill's sponsor. A lot of it is culture war BS. Cannabis is seen as "something liberals do." A lot of these "conservatives" see it as more of a lifestyle than a political ideology. Protectionism and banning things they don't like is more important than conservative principles like freedom, choice, and free enterprise.
