No, but in my opinion, the bar generally will be higher. The OP mentions having a photographer, but that in and of itself isn't necessarily frivolous.

Again, Revelator just seems like a miserable person (an assessment that isn't based solely on this thread).

i gotcha. his original post seems to be conflating two things though - people with money spending it on things he disagrees with, and people without much money spending it on dumb shti when they should be saving.

i think for the most part the people that are spending tons of money on photo shoots, smash cake parties, fancy family vacations, etc are also the ones that can afford it. so, while i PERSONALLY tend to agree that a lot of that stuff is frivolous spending, i could give a shite about how some other family spends their discretionary income.

however, i do think there is a large percentage of the population, lots of the 20-somethings, who spend a ton of money on lifestyle stuff (some of the stuff discussed in this thread) who then turn around and complain that they are missing out on the American dream because the boomers stole it from them for some nebulously defined, vague reason. they'll say they cant afford a house because of some faceless group of senior citizens off in Florida or wherever, but they'll spend $3k a month on consumer bullshite. and then they'll act like capitalism has failed them and start demanding help from teh government and advocating overthrow of the entire system. that's a problem.
