I know you were a bad arse runner back in the day. Can you beat her now? that's a very average time for a chick but she'd smoke my fat arse.

Thankfully I'm NOT a journalist, but it's embarrassing how little "research" was put into this article. The opening paragraph clearly states she's running the 2024 Olympic marathon:

"While this Florida-based marathon runner has run in some of the most iconic races in the world like the New York City Marathon, this is her first time to compete in the Olympic marathon."

10 seconds on Google would've told the writer his statement is wrong.

As soon as I saw the photo I was thinking "there must be some other marathon being added to the Olympics because she does not look built like a marathoner." And now I'm seeing that she got entered into basically a goddamn raffle to hobby jog her wait through Paris and expecting the IOC/USATF/USOC to fund her adventure.

We've got 50-60 year olds in our run group that go either sub-4 hour or close to it. This woman is a goddamn sham.

It is weird that al-Jazeera would get duped by something like this. They are one of the few credible news organizations left.

Seems like, reading the article, Ashley doesn't claim to be competing as an Olympian. She can easily be claiming to have won a raffle spot here:

“Hundreds of thousands of people tried to get a handful [marathon] spots. It was such a long shot,”

This fundraiser is to help our friend and coworker, Ashley, run in the Paris Olympics. And yes, you’ve read that right. The following is a brief background that has lead up to this upcoming adventure:

I have yet to find someone who doesn't do it for the competition or physical and mental health benefits.

That’s because that is an exhaustive list of why anyone would do it.

A few days ago I read on this board that al Jazeera was a trusted, unbiased source for news.

I find that hard to believe as they clearly have a Muslim-first agenda.
Turns out they aren't very bright, either.

I'll hang up and listen.

I run for the free beers at group runs. And female runners have great butts.

Insane to whiff that badly on such an easily researched/debunked claim

That should be the end of that reporter’s career

Thanks. I had trained for 2:40 and was probably in the aerobic shape for it so I wasn’t super pleased with the result . Came through the half in 1:18 and change then crashed and burned. Legs couldn’t handle the lactic acid it felt like.
