I don't get this portrayal of Brian Kelly as the fricking Spartans at the gates of Thermopylae with Dominic Williams and NIL. This isn't a precedent. There are plenty of players that have asked for money from a team and been told to kick rocks. Kelly is not some trailblazing pioneer on this.

LSU has a budget. Kelly didn't see the value with Williams. Is there anything more to it than that? It isn't like the entire team (like all competitive programs) doesn't have some form of NIL so it isn't like having his players paid is a line he won't cross. If some player was worth 1.5 million and Kelly saw the value, he would push for the guy to get a deal. He'd be dumb not to.

Kelly is managing his budget the way he thinks is best. Some programs are good at it. Some suck. That is about it.

BK values high school recruiting to build his program and his recruiting is JUST fine. See LSU's '25 recruiting class. Overall #1s at 3 positions. BK will only pay if MUST needed. And how is this even an ounce different from what Coach Saban has been proclaiming all along about NIL? Most rant fans hate everyone else to the degree that they just pop off, but if Kelly is willing to take the heat on not overpaying, good for him. Between now and if Congress ever gets anything done on this side, coaches are going to have to continue to speak out, just like Coach Saban. Nothing wrong with conviction, as long as you are willing to stick to them.
