A graduation ceremony for nursing students at Howard University in Washington D.C. was canceled right in the middle of the keynote address Thursday as furious parents who were locked out due to capacity issues pounded on the doors and even smashed a window.

I think I’d riot out of joy if I got denied attendance to a graduation ceremony

When showing up late to an event doesn't work the way you thought it would. I can't see my baby graduate, Hmmm, let's break some door and riot.

While their actions are understandable and acceptable, if not commendable, it’s still so infuriating that we have yet to address the systemic issues and white power structures in this country that lead to this type of thing.

Hope I’m never a patient of one of these nurses.

A few years ago, these parents were ruining youth sports events.

Parents ruin things.

On the other hand, not having tickets or limiting attendees per graduate is a recipe for disaster.

There is lots of things i could say but i will just start with the simple question

If your family member is graduating college, why would you show up after it already started?

That's a huge crowd for a Nurse Pinning. How many graduating nurses were there for the semester? I've been to a couple at UT Southwestern in Dallas that were in an auditorium about 1/4 the size of that one. I doubt 60 people were in the audience.

Obviously I don't agree with the response, but not having adequate space for attendees is terrible.

I think there is far, far too many people assuming in this thread.

How do y'all know it was family members? How do the university officials know the make-up of the unruly crowd? How do they know they were "Late for graduation"?

Alternate theory: It was really just a bunch of poon-hounds trying to get the jump on a fresh bunch of newly minted Nursluts.

Just a guess, but I’d imagine each graduate was probably given like 4-5 tickets for immediate family. But what would up happening is many of them decided to invite every aunt, uncle and cousin they have.

"This is why HBCUs are better than PWIs, families care so much about their relatives graduating that they'll do whatever it takes to attend the ceremony"

- sugar71, probably.
