yes - I apparently had one for years, but never knew till i lost weight. I also learned you can get ingrown hairs that can get infected as well.
mine was small, they did a small incision and repaired it - no mesh. recovery was a few weeks of not doing much, and sight pain - I ended up not taking any pain meds from it.
basically the 1st week or so you hold a pillow against your stomach when coughing, sneezing and so on. no heavy lifting for a month, if i remember correctly.
it is really not too bad - depending on your pain tolerance - I get kidney Stones, so the pain from this was not too bad.
