And then these two kids killed all that

So a school shouting by 12 year olds with nothing to do with gun racks killed gun racks?

That's how I remember it. That and a corresponding wave of other school shootings within a few years brought a national focus on school violence. Those gun racks on campus seemed to disappear right after that.

back in the day" we parked in the school parking lot with guns in racks...
many would go hunting after school...

I had one in my pickup.

Actually we hunted in the morning before school. On the property adjoining the school, some Texaco property and where a present day road is built with hotels and stuff. One of the Brother’s of the Sacred Heart would hunt sometimes with us. The old retired Brother who would duck hunt and fish with us would clean the rabbits when we went to class.

Someone with no gun experience brought one of his Dad’s little semi- auto’s to school to “ show off “. He was showing his buddies how to work the slide. Shot his self in the belly. Stupid MF’er.

That ended the gun, “ racks n your truck at school times “.

We pissed off administration because we parked a truck next door with some old single shot shotguns as a “ work around” of having guns on campus. That way we could still shoot before school.

They shut us down. It was a different world.

We had guns in the rear window racks and not a vehicle in the lot was locked. Half had their windows down.

Lot of rebel flags in rear windows too. And hemostats hanging from the rear view mirror.

And every bed was filled with beer cans and Marlboro boxes.

And none of us could math.

So you had a lot of future medical folks in your class like me.

I wonder why we didn’t find stethoscopes as useful as our “ stats “. I had a pair with scissors built in that one my girlfriend’s Dad who was a surgeon gave me. A heavy duty pair. Told him I needed some to unhook fish and cut line. He liked me because I taught his daughter how to drive my standard drive pickup when she was sixteen.

I my stats under the seat in my Tupperware box which was well stocked. Different world. We were always running open throttle.
