re: Pels want to move to top of draft, BI to be “aggressively” shopped per Stein

We’re not going anywhere with BI at this point. And this team is not competitive in the West. Probably half of the teams would have swept us.
As frustrating as it is, playing the lottery with draft picks is our best bet.
He has value to get starting caliber players if not really good players, though

so while you're correct a vet role player is the safer option,
They're only "Safer" is because they're already guaranteed to be what this majority of draft projects to be as a ceiling.

it's worth the risk of the downside to take the swing to get the potential upside
That "potential upside" is the problem in this draft.

Basically, you want to take as many shots as you possibly can to get a really good player
That's NFL draft philosophy more than NBA draft philosophy.
The comparable NBA draft philosophy is to get as many picks as you can over time, so that when you get lucky and get a top-2/3 pick in an elite class, you get that guy. You don't accumulate picks when you know the draft is weak and then pray

so literally what Brandon Ingram has done
Nobody in this draft projects to what BI has done, and none are close to the prospect he was in his draft.

There is probably a big difference between pick 3 and 5 in terms getting your preferred player. Is anyone afraid of trading BI in the division to Houston? I feel like in the past this would have been a consideration, but the West is so stacked all you can really do is focus on what you build.

Looking more deeply at the top of the draft, I can't imagine we'd be going after either French guy, b/c both are major developmental players. Sarr would be the only one that fits our needs, also.
Or will be looking at 2 white guards from the SEC?
Knecht is already 23 and is still limited, which is a huge red flag.
Sheppard would be great to add to the team, but he's a tertiary guy on offense and we'd be trading a primary guy. Not an even trade. We need a guy who can get his own shot off and that's not Sheppard.
I'm guessing we are targeting...Clingan.

Is Clingan any better than Kessler? Seems like Kessler would be cheaper.

I think Sheppard has the skill set to become more than a tertiary guy though. I think Day 1 he has an impact but he’s got the handles, the shooting and the killer first step where he routinely beats guys on the drive. He could probably improve his passing. But he’s easily the prospect I would want if we got a top pick + a good center in the trade because I think Shepp would come in and give you solid bench minutes right off and potentially push CJ to 6th man….as a best case scenario.
He’s got the potential to be an even better shooter than CJ and Trey. But with actual playmaking and ball handling. He would def need to be able to create his own shot but he’s got the skills to do it. And it’s not like CJ is super efficient at getting himself clean looks. He just makes really tough shots over guys.

There aren't enough 0s to add to me agreeing with you 100000%
Other than the 2 French guys (who are major developmental projects), the rest project to a likely ceiling of role player/4th-5th starter. We can get role players and 4th-5th starters (1) for less and (2) without the downside risk of the developmental curve.
So yeah, why deal a decent asset for a riskier version of a guy that projects to a player we can acquire for a lot less?
Posted on 5/13/24 at 8:00 am to SlowFlowPro
This is what Griff is good at. He makes it look like everyone is interested and tons of deals are in the works.
Posted on 5/13/24 at 8:02 am to TigerinATL
Im at the point ATL where I kinda dont care about what deal Griff can get as long as he can get BI off the team so Trey and Hawk can fly.
Posted on 5/13/24 at 8:02 am to WicKed WayZ
I don't mind Sheppard, but he's an ideal fit next to Zion/BI, not a replacement for a guy like BI.
We deal BI for Sheppard and we have 1 guy who can create his own offense on our entire team. Trey, CJ, Sheppard, etc. are not lead guys. Things get real ugly, real fast when Zion is off the court.
If we were in the East, we could grind out a top-3 seed with that defensive mentality (just look at the Knicks, or what the Magic are doing), but in the West? I doubt we make the playoffs.

Not only he might be cheaper, but you arleady know he's good. Clingan "should" be good, but you hope he's as good as Kessler.
SO what's the point of drafting anyone like that?
I think it would be silly to trade BI and the best asset coming back is a top pick in this draft.
and anytime you hear the words "needs developement" then it's a hard pass for me when it comes to the draft, especially for anyone big.

I've been asking this since yesterday afternoon and nobody is answering.

Is this your draft philosophy? SEC guards have been pretty successful in the NBA especially from Kentucky.
Again you’re making these assumptions on players like you’re some draft expert. Its weird how you know “for certain” that nobody in this draft will pan out.

Lol your response to anything when questioned. Its comical you keep doing this. For someone who acts like they want to be in adult discussion; you respond like a child.
This isn’t the Saints board- no one gives a shite about your dumb straw man responses. Be an adult.

No. Only my response when people try to change my argument into something else.

You state your opinions on draft prospects as you have some kind of certainty. Its based on pure opinion and what you read in the media. Then based off that you’re making determinations that trading BI for draft picks just isn’t worth the value. When questioned on this- instead of explaining your reasoning; your fallback is the “strawman.” Like I said your predictability in your arguments is comical.

No you can’t take it when someone questions how you make your analysis. You find it offensive and go on the attack. You’re so easy to read- you do this on every argument with several different people.

I already told you. This is Griff's smoke and mirrors. The thread title has been changed to feature Marc Stein after a more authoritative news breaker than Scoop B broke the news, but they both work for Ballys and both have had Pels scoops in the past.
This is very clearly a Pels leak, not a leak from the teams with the picks trying to goose the value of their picks in trades like we saw last year from Charlotte and Portland.

He’ll act like he never read your comment and when questioned he’ll call you a strawman. He doesn’t like reading arguments that contradict his. Its an ego thing.
