Was Jay Johnson too loyal to his returning roster?

There were clearly guys on this roster he could have told to walk, but he let return. Those spots could have been used for another infielder or 2 in the portal as well as pitching. Right after a championship would seem to be the best time to load up while you have max visibility. I think everybody felt good about the catcher spot, although that spot has turned into a disappointment.

You don’t tell players like Milazzo and travinski to take a hike when you lose the experience we did even if travinski is completely apathetic.

Like Florida shite just happens sometimes. I’ll melt if we repeat this next season.

What makes you think that the 3 additional guys from the portal would be better?

He thought the pitching and defense would carry this team, but they have been the most disappointing aspect

Milazzo and Travinski aren’t the guys I’m talking about. I understand they felt good about the catcher situation. I think most of us did.

And we’re not even gonna touch the portal, right? Jay never does that.

Kling and Pearson’s leash was way way too long

yeah I think he put way too much faith in guys taking the next step on the lineup, but he was agressive with the pitching staff. We got 2 starters besides Hurd so it’s not like we put all our eggs in that basket, but Hurd sucking absolutely fricked this teM

we brought back Kling and Pearson and…. no one else in the outfield. It’s crazy we were more agressive there.

And. the infield too. I know you eventually have to play the guys you recruit but Neal and Kling were huge question marks coming into the season.

Jones was the only sophmore
I though showed signs of life last year in SEC play,

Get ready. Look at Arizona. It's his pattern.

2 trips to CWS in 5 years at Arizona isn’t a bad pattern…

What happened in between those appearances? Is only hosting one regional in five seasons acceptable?

I’m looking at your baseball posts from last season regarding a team that eventually won a championship & they are kinda way off

Also some great posts about Jayden Daniels

My question to you is do you even trust what your brain is telling you at the moment? You pretty confident?

Next season will not be as bad as some think. We will lose some key pieces, but a lot of these young guys have a bright future. If braswell can cut back on the errors he’s been great at the plate. Kling is polar opposite. Defense is great, just has to up the BA.

I don’t know if loyalty is the issue. He thought guys would take the natural next step and those guys did not.

The way to long term success is still through high school recruiting, not the portal.
