His entire angle is jury nullification whether it be in the court of public opinion now or the court of law later. He never denies any of the actions, and I imagine he is guilty of exactly what he is charged with. He apparently committed a violent crime against a completely innocent person just doing the job just because it was based on a mistaken belief should not completely negate his responsibility.

I don't think his argument fits any classic nullification argument, unjust law, overly harsh penalty, etc. He's trying to go insanity without actually saying it.

This is the 2nd recent story where Uber has gotten people fricked over. The first was that old man who was being harassed by scammers and the scammers called an Uber driver to go to his house.
Now we have an Uber driver picking up a 13 year old runaway and causing the driver to get guns pulled on him by a pissed off dad.
Uber really needs to revise some of its policies. It's almost like they thought about none of these issues before going live with their business. A driver should never be picking up an unaccompanied minor.

I’m guessing he thought the Uber driver was actually some perv who took his daughter out instead of just giving her a ride home?

He needs to put some consequences in place for his daughter instead of pulling a gun on the Uber driver.

I can totally understand being overprotective and worried with a 13yo daughter and just losing it on someone who you might think has done her harm

I think this is a story of a guy who is so terrified of the world he’s taken it out on his daughter.
Now she hates him and because he can’t fix that because he’s a bad parent he’s taking it out on some random kid.
And now it’s going to cost him.

I mean, he is a father whose 13 year old daughter is missing then all of a sudden some man drops her off.
Does Uber have anything in place so that anyone under the age of 18 has to get an approval to get an Uber? Because if you see some random man bringing your daughter home late at night/early morning the first thing you would want to know is why is a 13 year old in his car.
You can't blame the dad for what he did. He might have over reacted... Maybe? I am sure some people think so, but its instinct for a father to protect his daughter, which is why if I was an Uber driver I would have a problem driving minors without parent consent. That just seems to be asking for a problem.

I don't get this mentality that this is acceptable behavior without even knowing what is going on other than your daughter is actually being dropped off. I would questioning her first.

Definitely one of those “you can’t do that… but I get why you did,” situations (if this happened as presented.)
Seems that cooler heads would allow for a plea bargain and public apology.
If he’s going for “I didn’t do anything wrong and I want my day in court,” that’s different.

Look, he was clearly wrong for doing what he did, but he was obviously upset and confused. To me, this story isn’t as bad as the sheriff that shot the Air Force guy. The Uber driver, although a bit roughed up, is still alive. The Air Force guy is dead and he was just chilling in his apartment. He didn’t pick up a 13 year old girl like Uber driver did. Some of y’all more upset at a father thinking he’s protecting his 13 year old, than you are at the sheriff. I almost find it refreshing to read about a father that cares about his 13 year old in this day and age

I'd like to know if he saw the car come up with her in the back seat or the front seat. If she's in the back, certainly it clicks that she's in a cab or an Uber, right? If she's in the front, then maybe his mind goes in a totally different direction.
Also, I hope someone, like mom, rips this girl for sneaking out, being a moron, and putting her father and that driver in this position. Incredibly stupid and selfish decision.
