The fundamental problem here is that University leadership and the teaching body has an extremely high tolerance for this sort of thing.
They knew this would happen. They knew they would not get through the ceremony without something like this occurring and they made a choice, and the choice was exactly what we saw.
I would say that they didn't have the stones to have security on stand by to remove this a-hole from the stage, but that wouldn't be true. The reason they didn't have security ready to yank his arse out of there is because they believe that sort of protesting is part and parcel of college culture at large and room should be made for it.
So before folks get angry over shite like this and live the lie that the inmates are running the collegiate asylum, keep in mind that University leadership wants this. They're not yielding to or giving into these kids. Leadership is nudging them along.
Alot of this shite we're seeing is the academic version of keeping up with the Joneses. If you fancy yourself an elite institution and you don't have this behavior on your campus, well you just don't have jackshit for academic street cred, now do you.
UT needs this and they're delighted this kid stepped up and delivered.
