re: What are your hobbies

Woodworking, growing a good size vegetable garden, throwing darts, riding my motorcycle, cooking, keeping things in good condition at my house and the vehicles in good working order.

I'm retired, so I can do all of the above at my leisure.

I really enjoying maintaining my small garden and flower beds.

As usual, I'm late to the party, but here goes-

Flyfishing. Whether wading or from a boat. Generally its for trout on the Chattahoochee near Atlanta, but you can catch bream, sac-a-lait, bass, striper, and redfish on a flyrod and it's fun as hell. Your kids can enjoy it as well.

Eventually this'll turn into tying your own flies and that's another entirely different hobby in its own right.

But, whether or not you use a fly rod, fishing is a hobby you can enjoy alone or you can include your kids. And, unless you live in the Mojave Desert, you can probably find a pretty decent fishing hole within thirty minutes of the house.

Fishing

I enjoy time spent flying general aviation aircraft. I fly around twice a week, either in the Cessna 172, or the Piper Cub. Spend a good amount of time at the airport. I also build alot of flying model aircraft. Not assemble, but build. Alot of vaccum bagging and mold making, plug work, carbon fiber, fiber glass etc.. Alot of fabrication. Using the mind, hands, a little cad, and some friendly machinist connections. Dabble in fly fishing, and fly tieing, pickle ball for some non mundane exercise, lift, and run at work. My kids are grown and out of the house.

Betting on sports. Never a day off

I read a lot. History, mostly. Main topics of interest include World War II, the Civil War, the history of the U.S. and Soviet space programs, and biographies. In general, I am interested in 20th century history so potentially I'll read anything about that. I also read a lot on baseball history and biographies; mostly stuff from the deadball era through the 1970's.

I like to listen to music. Sometimes in rare moments when it is quiet around the house I'll just lay on the couch, close my eyes, and play my music. I enjoy big band, some jazz, mid 60's to mid 70's tunes.

I enjoy genealogy and astronomy, although I go through phases on those. I'll put a lot of time and effort into them for awhile, and then take a break, before returning to them.

I don't really collect anything in particular, other than odds and ends. I have a china closet full of just things I've picked up here or there, or were gifted to me. Anything from a meteorite to Titanic coal to Civil War bullets to arrowheads to military patches. Just anything I find interesting.

Electric guitar. There are some days when I'll practice 2 or 3 hours without even realizing how much time has gone by.

Following LSU sports and the Saints are my main hobbies but I also have a 75 Gallon fish tank. Its a fun hobby. not too much work but enough work to keep you occupied.
