I’d like some context if they’re going to premise the entire damn movie on the struggle of journalists. I thought the battle scenes were well done but they missed swung and missed overall with the lack of context.
So far the only complaints you’ve really levied is that the movie was different than what you expected.
They didn’t swing and miss on what they were trying to do, they just weren’t trying to do what you clearly really wanted them to do.
On very much the contrary, the movie would’ve been awful had they tried to go just straightforward “what if the civil war happened forreals” and created some cartoonish bad guys for the audience to root against. That’s not what the point of the movie is at all

Kirsten Dunst looks older, which you seem to hold against the movie?
Trying to better understand if that’s one of your primary critiques

I will certainly give him a bit of bait and switch with the marketing.
He also points out a lack of context which is also true but was avoided on purpose. However, the ideology of the schism would have almost certainly set it up to be a left/right struggle which is specifically what Garland wasn't to avoid.
I won't argue with anyone who thought it was a bad film because I can see some people not liking it. I went in knowing what it was and I think it worked well. This reminds me of how thoroughly disappointed I was when I saw From Dusk Till Dawn, I went in thinking it was what I at the time equated to a typical QT movie but when it turned into a vampire movie it lost me. I had to come back to it later to appreciate it for what it was. If I had gone into Civil War with only the trailers I would have been disappointed as well.
