Being a catcher looks absolutely brutal, but I've never seen a catcher's throat get sliced open in the middle of a game.

For 120+ yrs, dudes with literal metal spikes on their feet tried to slide into and bull over catcher's as they turned almost helplessly into or stood in front of a full speed prime athlete running at them full speed.

I get that skates are blades, but being an MLB catcher is no day at the beach.

NFL cornerback because you’re basically playing/moving backwards against world class athletes

At least the goalie can stand, even if on skates.

I never understood how catchers could shite-squat for 9 innings and catch heaters and then have to pop up to throw out runners.

Both have to always be on....alert.

Catchers use to stand in old thyme days....but baseball wanted to give umps a better look....some umps would stand 10 feet back.

Most of the time goalie, when Angel Hernandez is the home plate umpire catcher.

I've rarely, if ever, heard of a catcher becoming a basket case and just unable to play the position after being elite. I've seen goalies become basket cases, get into their own heads, and unable to effectively play the position. When that happens to a goalie, it's really hard to come back and be a NHL-level goalie.

I've never been a goalie but I have been in catchers gear in July for 9 innings.. you are a puddle after that

But goalie still but I would say it's much closer when it is hot and you are playing against a team with speed in the bases.

Both are very difficult but I would give the edge to MLB catcher. Having to be able to make the throws to each base and making the calls for pitches adds a different element to their job. It’s harder to stop a puck than catch the ball, but they don’t have to be offensive players also.

I think this goalie would think goalie. But maybe it doesn’t matter and we’re all gonna die?

First time I caught was a three hour practice, and I was being the plate the entire time.

I have never been that exhausted or bruised. We didnt have quite the equipment they have today.

Juan Marichal.

Marichal seemed like a regular calm, cool dude.

When I was a kid I used to wonder what would cause him to wack the catcher and then make swings at anyone who came near him.

This is patently false especially in comparison to baseball catchers. I’ve done both.
