Why couldn't we have had this event in NOLA?

Probably because the last UFC event in New Orleans (with Poirier and Lewis) in June 2015 wasn't that well attended (6,231 at Smoothie King Center).

Granted, that was a lifetime ago, and would probably do much better in current times.

that's exactly the reason and it's not really fair because the UFC wasn't anywhere near the popularity level back then that it is now.... but, with that said, New Orleans has a couple of things going for it right now to get another UFC event in the near future .....

1. look at St. Louis tonight. that crowd was on fire and broke Fight Night records.... the first show in St. Louis was a financial disaster and it took years for them to get a second chance.

2. Dustin Poirier is fighting for the title next month and has made it blatantly clear that he wants an event in Louisiana .... if he can finally win the belt, his first title defense will more than likely be in New Orleans.
