I just got back from Gulf Shores and tried the Foosackly’s in Foley. They sell chicken fingers, fries, and toast. They even have a “Foo” sauce that should be damn near copyright of Cane’s sauce.
Which one came first?

In the grand scheme of things Zaxbys > Canes and it’s not really close.

Considering Cane's is just a ripoff of Bailey's, I'll allow someone else to rip off Cane's.

As far as I’m aware there’s no beef between them.

Guthrie’s in Auburn is the original chicken finger, fries and Texas toast place. The ones around Auburn are still fire, but the ones franchised out in other towns are very hit or miss, with most being a miss.
I now see this was already mentioned multiple times.

Guthrie's in Haleyville opened in 1965, but they didn't start focusing on chicken fingers until the late 70s..
Most of the copycats like Zaxby's, Cain's, Foosackleys, Slim Chickens, etc did not open until the 1990s and early 2000s.
ETA: and Guthrie's is still the best IMO. The fingers are close, but Guthrie's sauce is like crack.

From Wikipedia
quote:
Founders Todd Graves and Craig Silvey were studying at different universities when they wrote a plan for a chicken-finger restaurant which Silvey submitted in a business plan-writing course, receiving a C-minus grade. At the time, Graves worked at Guthrie's Chicken Fingers.[6]
quote:
The original Guthrie's was opened in Haleyville, Alabama, in 1965 by Hal Guthrie.[1] The restaurant originally served a full menu of Southern food, but in 1978 it was changed to focus primarily on chicken fingers.[1] This switch resulted in Guthrie's becoming the first restaurant to have a menu largely centered on chicken fingers.[2] By 1982, a second location would open in Auburn and a third in Athens, Georgia by 1984.[1] By 1997, eight locations were open and all were under the ownership of the Guthrie family.[1]

Maybe that solves the issue. Cane's has started selling nuggets to avoid the possibly copyright claim.
