Anything new? Is it confirmed a runaway situation?

Yes. Although several stories have been told.

My husband knows his dad.

The kid told the cops there was another shooter .. so that’s when the cops actually went into the church.

Had he not said anything about another shooter perhaps no one inside would have known.

Seems he didn’t expect anyone to be in the cry room and it freaked him out. He went into the side where the door to the choir loft is and people were there.

Attended 530 mass today. 5 sweet second graders made their first communion at that mass.

Didn’t seem weird to me at all.

Until I saw a sheriffs deputy in full gear at the back of the line for communion. Really made me wonder what this world has come to that we need a police/SO presence at a church service. The shock of seeing him there (even though it had been said that there would be a presence) brought tears to my eyes.

We can’t let evil win yall.

We have an armed LEO at every mass and have for a while (St. Pius).

ETA: I was honestly surprised to hear that a parish the size of St. Mary Magdalen didn’t also already have a LEO presence at masses and events.

We bounce between St. Pius 10:30am and 11am Sacred Heart in Broussard depending on how late we are running. The police presence at Pius started after Roe v Wade was overturned. They have the money to hire cops. I never felt the need for one, but if it deters one crazy person from shooting up a church, it’s worth it.

Surprised that Frather Delcambre at Sacred Heart didn’t mention anything about the incident today at mass. Might as well not give the perp any attention.

Epic Cajun, if you see a family of 6 with their kids constantly going to the bathroom at Pius, say hi to me in the gathering area after mass!

Will do! We usually go to 9am though

Father Brady didn’t mention it either this morning.

6 kids. Thank you and your wife for you service. Not joking. I make the 10:30 mass at Pius once or twice a month. You shouldn’t be hard to find.

I'm not saying I 100% buy his story as well, but if he was there to shoot up the church, how was he "stopped" when he saw a woman and 2 kids? Then again, why kidnap someone for a runaway in front of hundreds of people?

Regardless, this kid checks all of the boxes for mentally broke brained. If the states and feds still had balls, we would bring back the lobotomizing and warehousing of the truly crazy fricks (like him) for the greater good. But we all know at some point, this kid will be released into the population because some psychiatrist will claim "he is pretty much normal as long as he takes his meds".

We’ve never in the almost 28 years that I’ve lived here had that. Ever.

Our priest today was a retired priest who resides in Abbeville and says mass often.

Not a word was spoken about it which I thought was great.

I saw 3 girls .. all were beautiful! Did she read yesterday? If so I spoke with her and the coordinator from church after.

That sweet angel said she was worried and scared to go to church today but “it’s just all normal”. I was grateful to hear that.

So do we know who the girlfriend is? Does she corroborate his story?

I'm very concerned to know his intentions. If some stupid fake kidnapping is accurate, then it's just an obviously unhinged kid who needs jail time and a wake up call. If his intentions were to shoot up the church or harm others, he needs to be locked away with no key.

What are his parents like? Did he have a relationship with the parish priest? Could this be a vengeance for abuse situation? I heard from someone who was there that day that they were told he was there to kill the priest.

At this point I have no idea what's true.

Apparently a detail of what I heard yesterday was off. He walked up to the church, set the rifle against the exterior wall of the church, then walked inside and went into the cry room where the woman was. Someone outside saw what he did and asked for another dad who was outside of the church to take the gun. That dad took the gun and brought it away from where it was initially placed. The kid stayed in the cry room for a short period (less than a minute is what I was told), and then he walked back outside of the church (presumably to go get the rifle). Well, when he walked outside someone locked the door behind him and his rifle was no longer where he placed it. I think at that point he realized whatever his plan was was no longer going to happen.

Obviously making an assumption, but it seems to me like maybe he wanted to get a visual on what he was walking into before shite went down, so he went in without the gun to scope out the scene and then was going back outside to grab it.

I don’t buy the kidnapping story unless they have some sort of hard evidence of that (texts, etc…)

I’ve heard this too, but I think it’s just a rumor.

Honestly both that rumor and the kidnapping rumor appear to be minimizing what his potential motive could’ve been, almost seems like damage control.

I don’t know the girlfriend or his parents. My husband says that his dad is real nice — been married he thinks 3 times?— but he was not aware that he lived with the grandparent. Also said the grandfather is super nice — he knows him from ramcjing/farm bureau/cattlemen’s association type things; very involved as I think Epic said.

My kids are older than him by several years .. so I’m not familiar with him. Have several teacher friends at the school but didn’t want to ask them about him yet.

As far as a relationship with the priest: the school has mass every Friday. And the priest who was celebrating the mass that morning is frequently at the schools. Can’t speak to their actual relationship of course or of anything had ever happened.

I hope that this kid gets the help that he obviously needs.
