Conference Auto Bids

With McNeese softball eliminated from the conference tournament, the SLC will not be represented by their best team this year. When did the asinine rule of giving the auto bid to the team that gets hot at the right time instead of the best team throughout the season get implemented? Heck, let's just play the conference tournaments and get rid of the rest of the season since it clearly doesn't matter.

Pick a better time to lose 2 games to Incarnate Word
Also... Southeastern won 45 games this season... this isn't some 8-seed with a losing record slipping into the NCAA Tournament... SLU had just as good of a season
Plus McNeese knows all about using homefield/court advantage to win the conference tournament and get a NCAA auto bid... right Will Wade?

That is exactly my point. It's a stupid rule that renders literally the entire season pointless.

I have no respect for Gary Gaffe and think it's completely stupid that pur athletic department retained him after literally the worst football season in McNeese history.

Are conferences required to have tourneys? I could have sworn back in the day some conferences did just send their regular season winner. At least in basketball, not sure about baseball.

I’ve never been a fan of the conference tourney taking precedence over a full season but I don’t think it’s a “rule”. The conferences choose to host tourneys to make some money and in order for people to give a shite there has to be something at stake.

This happens alot of times in 1 bid conferences. Handle your business and you make the NCAA Tournament. If not, tough luck,sad but true.
