Then that's nothing like what Maher did. During a roaring economy he wished for a recession for no other reason than to make Trump look bad.

What you're wanting is a recession while we're in an economy already in a downward spiral (one where it looks like a recession is likely) to further underscore how bad the current administration has been on the economy. In other words, you aren't wishing for the majority of people to have economic problems just because you have a very personal gripe with one person.
