Doesn’t matter because LSU should not have been in that situation in the first place. No excuses!

That would be a joke of an interference call. The rule has to have parameters in writing but Milazzo had a clear throw and tossed it into the parking lot. The runner was a step inside of the line still on the dirt, that isn’t what the rule is designed to prevent

So where was he when the ball was actually being fielded at first. Because that pic isn’t the situation the rule is protecting against.

Admit it...when LSU got 2 Outs they turned into The Island of Misfit Toys...

You had a Pitcher who can't throw a strike.

A Catcher who can't throw to 1st.

And a 1st Baseman who can't catch.

Other than that they should have won.

Milazzo should’ve hit him in the back with the ball and it would’ve been called.

I am not complaining about it, because Milazzo somehow threw to the outside of the base and didn’t even hit the runner, lol. You are 100% right based on the rule.

I shouldn’t have to explain this to this board but here I am.

You can acknowledge that it should have been called interference with running out of baseline and also agree that we choked the game away. Both of those things can be true. Why can’t some of you comprehend this. Just because a person thinks the rule should’ve been called doesn’t mean they are “making excuses”.

This was my interpretation also - but I looked up the rule.

There is an exception:

quote:

It is the responsibility of the fielder making the throw (usually catcher F2 or pitcher F1, possibly F3 or F5 on a bunt, etc.) to ensure that the throw could reasonably retire the runner if not for the potential interference. If the throw cannot reasonably retire the runner, it is not RLI.

I watched a replay of the play - it looked to me like the throw was too far to the right of first base for Jones to have fielded it and make a play.

IF he had barreled over the runner to make the catch, then he would have been guilty of interference.

HOWEVER -
in looking at the replay it appears to me that the runner was in fair territory - and that makes it more difficult to make a normal throw to first base.

IN MY OPINION _ the runner should have been called out for interfering with the throw.

The fielder should not be required to make a magic throw if the runner is violating the rule in the first place - Do Not Understand the
"responsibility of the fielder" rule in this instance.

But it was Alabama, right ???

I believe technically that could be true but looking at the picture Milazzo was half way to the picture’s mound so I’m not sure if his throwing angle was really obstructed by the runner.

Not sure why some people are having trouble with this. By the letter of the rule, it was clearly interference. Granted LSU should never have been in a position to lose a game that way, and I think the rule is ridiculous and needs further clarification. But that is the rule. And by the rule, this was undoubtedly interference.

Anybody who watches baseball has seen this play many, many times called interference. One has to wonder if the roles were reversed, would the LSU baserunner have been called out for interference???

No self respecting umpire is going to call interference on that based on how far away from the plate the ball was when the catcher picked it up. He had plenty of angle to make a good throw.

He failed to do so.

Quit crying over this. It’s embarrassing

It really become a judgment call. If runners truly interfere w fielder ability to catch throw it’s called. If not it isn’t. Now did it ?????

That’s not the rule the rule from the book has been posted 100 times since it happened the runner has to interfere with the throw…..clearly that never happened.

Jones didn't even need to get hit to drop the awful throw.

Runner is already legally where he's supposed to be.

Shut up and move on.

It’s a lot more egregious than the ones we’ve seen both for and against LSU. Specifically the one against UF early in Game 3.

But it was still a very makable play and I’m much more disappointed in Milazzo than the umps.

Win today and tomorrow and none of this matters at all

I know we're not in the best position again but as long as these guys keep fighting there's a chance
