I've happened upon cows mountain biking in New Mexico in free range areas. The only time I was concerned is when I took a corner and a bull was on the trail. He didn't look happy, but I just took a detour and all was well.

I had a lone horned heifer put me up a tree a couple of times when I was squirrel hunting. Mean old half breed milk cow that randomly would get territorial. Couldn’t shoot it with my .22 and wouldn’t since the landowner was letting me hunt his place.
Just had to wait it out on a low limb.

Lol.. Forest Cows! Well I hate to be that guy but the correct term is Silvopasture. Fig is a good word for that guy. My guess he was doing his little day hike thing on someone’s pasture property he should not have been on. He would have been really saying no if that rancher caught him spraying his heifers with bear spray.
