Democrats know full well that if DJT actually gets put behind bars, they loose the election. The goal is to sufficiently "tarnish" Trump to the point where even the staunchest Trump supporter will have doubt on NOV05.

It’s not a “stage play.” Yes it is a pre planned effort, but a very, very ill-advised one, poorly planned obviously, and again obviously poorly executed. No Trump is under no real threat of actually going to jail but that’s simply by virtue of the nature of the alleged crime (non-violent; low level felony) as well as his clean criminal record. I don’t care what drama some people hope for thus insist he will be thrown under the jail, that is absolutely not happening as a result of a conviction in this matter.

The goal is a conviction (even though they know any conviction will be overturned on appeal) regardless of jail time. They just want the TV ads portraying DJT as a convicted felon.
