Congrats on keeping everyone safe.

We’re all just happy that it didn’t bite you in your huge, gaping vagina.

The more likely truth is, you actually cannot identify snakes.

So that MF would not bite anyone? Is that what you're saying?
1000s times more cats and dogs bite people than snakes - do you also kill every dog or cat you see?

You understand the overwhelming majority of snakebites come from people dicking with snakes, right
I personally know 14 people that were bitten by venomous snakes in La…..13 most certainly deserved getting bit. One deserved BOTH bites he got(same snake)

The least serious bite was a baby water moccasin (blowing up yet another myth). The most serious - the double biting moccasin

Not to mention venomous snakes in LA are VERY rarely fatal...nobody is gonna die before getting medical care unless they were knocking on deaths door to begin with. The biggest cluster frick is actually finding a hospital with the correct antivenom.

Speaking of that? What is the first phone call? Would one of the nearest ORs know this?

Listening to stories of people who got bit has proven to me that US medical system absolutely sucks at medical care for venomous snake bites. And the worst part is that you pay royally for that experience.

If you've been bitten by a venomous snake, go to the ER, and are conscious, you should ask two questions of the doctor: 1. Have you treated a venomous snake bite before? 2. Do you have an established plan for treating a venomous snakebite, both the antivenom phase and the damage phase?

If they can't answer both of those satisfactorily you should tell them to stabilize you with your loading dose of antivenom and then you or a family member should immediately start looking for a better, more prepared hospital. Make sure your family understands this as well.

In many cases of venomous snakebites in the US the treatment, or lack thereof, causes complications, unnecessary damage, and massive medical bills.

I've been in a crawfish boat since I was still in diapers and have never told a lie on the OB.

You're you.

The OB can choose to believe whichever one us they would like.

It's not a lie if you believe it. Your statement was totally absurd though.

Can we get a few examples of cottonmouths beside water sakes and see who can properly ID them?

At this point I'm thinking this is a troll attempt.

Who kills a rat snake, takes a pic, uploads it to the internet, posts it on a board where people know what actual venomous snakes look like, and then crows about what a hero they are for killing a rat snake. THEN comes back and says he hasn't seen a non-venomous snake in forever?

I'm calling bullshite. This is an attempt to fire up the board by acting ignorant. I guess it's entertaining but whatever.

To be fair, he posted it on the OT originally, but it got moved here.

I see snakes in my yard fairly often but have yet to see a venomous one in 11 years - rat snakes, kings, garters, ribbon, racers.

My thoughts exactly. A real woodsman or outdoorsman can identify snakes. And deal with them. They will avoid biting you if at all possible. Though water moccasins can be pretty aggressive and territorial. Ticks are more of a real problem than snakes. Some people just hate to be reminded that wildlife and nature doesn’t mean park and petting zoos and terrariums.
