On its face it's a good objection and ruling. That witness cannot tell you what was in Trump's mind without laying the proper foundation. "He was upset." Question: How do you know he was upset. Answer: He told me. Question: Did he tell you why he was upset? Answer: Yes. Quesiton: What did he tell you? Answer: He told me that he was concerned that his family would see the story. That's the foundation that was missing. Otherwise, it is just a witness speculating as to what was in Trump's mind.
The defendant has the right to remain silent, but he can’t introduce his own statements through other witnesses.
If Trump wants to say he was upset, he has to take the stand.
