The point is other schools are offering far more money than lsu. In this case twice as much for a potential 2nd round pick. Not saying smith should have stayed or left, but there is NO way he should have been confident he would be a 2nd round pick. Therefore, he should have seriously considered a substantial ($ 1 million) offer if lsu had chosen to offer him that amount.

He said they paid a 2nd round guy $1 million and has stayed. We offered a 2 rd round guy (mason smith) $500,000 and he left. We offered 1/2 of what they offered if all this is true.

There's a bunch of layers to this whole story...
-Why is Larry Johnson running his mouth?
-He'd be talking about JT Tuimoloau, Tyleik Williams and/or Jack Sawyer, who according to various NFL draft sites could end up as first rounders (emphasis on COULD)
-If you're a player and hear this, it sounds more like OSU is holding these guys back if they truly are first day or early second day selections...
Ryan Day came out and said last year he needed like $13M to field a team so I'm sure they are shelling out cash for guys, but it all just feels a little goofy the way it went down according to OP.

Nobody but a die hard would know who Larry Johnson is and even then it’s Ohio State we don’t keep up with them like that

Maaaaan I just assume folks know who the major players are both in CFB at large and on the recruiting trail.
Larry Johnson is one of the top coaches / best recruiters in the country. Also, his sons were pretty good too... (oddly both went to Penn St)

Jared verse probably would've gotten picked higher last draft than he did this yr. He stayed an extra yr. Some guys do stay an extra yr cause they want to win a championship while also making a mil or two
That is a signing bonus for 4 yrs. It could be over after that.
