May 9 (Reuters) - OpenAI plans to announce its artificial intelligence-powered search product on Monday, according to two sources familiar with the matter, raising the stakes in its competition with search king Google.

The announcement date, though subject to change, has not been previously reported. Bloomberg and the Information have reported that Microsoft (MSFT.O), opens new tab-backed OpenAI is working on a search product to potentially compete with Alphabet's (GOOGL.O), opens new tab Google and with Perplexity, a well-funded AI search startup.

Well, we already know that google AI can't be trusted so the bar is not all that high.

Search engines have just become glorified manipulation devices

Most internet social media, really. I had a recipe that looked really good show up in my facebook feed. I clicked on it to see the full recipe and now I have to wade through recipes to see what actual people post.

Not going to lie, I enjoy the AI suggestions, explaining things. For everyday things. I absolutely wouldn’t trust it for anything political or spiritual.

There’s an AI program specific to my job and you can ask any question and it spits out an answer and the supporting documents. Those were the documents I would have to search an hour for. Instead, it takes 5 seconds. Incredible

Meh. It isn't really AI if people are programming it. So far AI has been notorious for outright fabricating shite when it comes to particulars. I mean, cites studies and papers that don't exist and gives credit for the work to people who had no part in it or have any knowledge of the cited works.

I will say, Google has started recommending some incredibly shitty, poorly written, obvious AI sport articles from a couple different websites lately. We don't need AI if it can't do better than the garbage journalists we have now.

I was just thinking about this one:

Until I looked it up, I didn't even realize dogpile was still around.

None of this is “AI”

It's machine learning - which is just really advanced indexing of an advanced dataset looped back into itself overtime

AI teaches itself autonomously, building it's own advanced datasets autonomously, using its own coded solutions to do so autonomously.

AI is artificial intelligence.

I'm holding out for RI.

(Real intelligence, not Rhode Island.)

I honestly don’t think Google can be replaced for anyone born prior to 2000.

As I read the post, I immediately thought to google it to find out more

Gemini did that, not OpenAI.

The point is that AI logic can be, and has been, so massaged by programmers that they can be every bit as unreliable as they are hoped to be reliable (thus the picture). #GIGO

Just wait until the medical industry is fully on board.

The AI gets your age, symptoms, and all test results. Dr. AI makes the calculation that keeping you alive is cost prohibitive and proceeds to proscribe a seeming course of lifesaving treatment but strangely take a turn for the worse.

Talk about managed care.

For the greater good!

so there all controlled by the left, maybe everything isn't a conspiracy. Because Gemini overcompensated on their Bias hyperparameters doesn’t mean the 1000s of other models out there are.
I’ve used various models in my python code from huggingface.co, please tell which ones have been infiltrated by the left, so I can avoid them.

No one said they are. You are so bent out of shape by my mentioning the fact that it happens that you've created a strawman to argue about instead.

I pointed out that the fact that there are AIs which have been co-opted by those with a Leftist philosophical bent in order to skew certain results (and sometimes that skewing goes hilariously wrong) and warned that based on that fact (see also: ChatGPT) that OpenAI may not be all it's touted as being.

You nearly prove the point of "conspiracy" by getting so triggered over something so benign that you delve immediately into an exaggeration fallacy.

There are only two possibilities.

One is to turn it loose and let it gather information. In which case you get trolls vandalizing it, like we saw with the Tay Tweets disaster.

Or you put up guardrails in which case it's just a reflection of the programmers and their biases.
