The IRS will focus on street level Americans and the guppies. The bigger fish are part of the US Corporatocracy and they're also the bulk of the donor class.

The bigger fish also use CPA firms and have lawyers. They're less likely to have made mistakes to begin with.

It sucks, but if you're the IRS and you want to increase revenue that's who you go after, the middle and upper middle class. There may or may not be a political component to this but you can make the case with simple math.

They are probably doing it because they know those people are probably less likely to be able to afford lawyers good enough to get them off or to even help

I’m willing to bet most of these middle class audits are geared towards conservatives that support Trump.

Is that including correspondence audits? I'd argue those need to be thrown out to make this data relevant.

Those 87,000 agents are there because enough GOPe sellouts voted to fund them.

Stop voting GOPe.

Small businesses where owners pull in under $200k in personal income are low-hanging fruit for the IRS

The IRS knows that this group is statistically the most likely to be the tax cheats that deduct all kinds of personal shite on their tax returns.

These "business owners" need to be audited and punished for breaking the law.

Why do you support the blatant breaking and abuse of the law?

Muh middle class is the loudest bunch of entitled whiny fricks in this country.

Small businesses where owners pull in under $200k in personal income are low-hanging fruit for the IRS and these same people are typically easy to intimidate if they aren't using a good CPA and/or tax attorney to help guide them on their investments in the business and how to properly manipulate the business to maximize LEGAL use of funds in certain questionable, but legal, strategies.

The IRS would love to go after bigger fish, but that won't produced immediate results. That takes years and lawyers and courts.

Joe's Landscape, Construction and Cleaning business, though, are pretty easy pickin's that'll bring in dollars, and this government needs dollars.

Ding ding ding. This right here.

Simple logic should have prevailed but it didn't....

1.-People making over 400K a year have alot to lose and cheating on taxes seems like a high risk/low reward scheme. Most have accountants that likely aren't coloring outside the lines.

2. -The pool of folks making over 400K is not very deep compared to those making 200K and less. Less opportunity.

3. The dollar slippage is definitely with the 75K-250K crowd. There are lots of these people and most are likely doing their own taxes. This is your bread and butter for the IRS,

No way 86K hired agents were looking away from the area most recovery could come.

Insulting the middle class is now “stating facts”. I remember when I voted Democrat, we were supposed to love the middle class.

Now this group of tax payers are “entitled fricks”.
