I don’t think it’s as big of a losing battle as you think. People have already made up their minds on this.
And frankly, the right shouldn’t be concerned about whether or not it’s a losing issue. Abortion, at any point in the pregnancy unless the mother is at serious risk or the child isn’t viable, is completely wrong, it’s barbaric. Frankly, it’s up there with slavery as stains on this nation’s soul.

Writing legislation that covers all the possible issues and defines serious risk and child viability is extremely difficult. Thats if you can get hardliners to even agree that fetal viability should be an exception. Which is why many folks, including many conservatives, that would otherwise not consider an abortion, want it to remain legal.
