Reality is that substantive governance is over until early next year, when the US enters the brief 12 month window out of every four years when the government can actually do anything.
It’s not the founders fault for not foreseeing how perpetual election cycles would end up in the 21st century of media bombardment, but it’s a huge hindrance on our nation.
Indefatigable’s rough high level outline of an amendment that will never happen:
Repeal the 17th, and remove Senate terms. Senators serve at the pleasure of their respective State governments. Change POTUS term to six years, with a one consecutive term limit (no lifetime limit). Eliminate 2 year House terms, and replace with a six year term. POTUS, with concurrence of a simple majority of the Senate, may call for an early House election once during his six year term. However, the full House is still up for election concurrent with every POTUS election—so a special/early election will result in shorter terms for House members.

They foresaw it. Its just that a 2nd item hasnt been used as they intended.
