Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi all get the bulk discount.

Damn, remind me to never go to prison in Arkansas. They know how it's done.

This hasn't been updated to reflect all the netflix money they're getting now.

How the hell is MA so expensive?

10 years ago they passed criminal justice reform, they now have the lowest incarnation rate in the country. 40% less inmates then 10 years ago.

Lots of the total cost are fixed, the unions are giving up those jobs. The current inmate population is older, additional health care costs.

I’d imagine that if a new prison was built or a major project was undertaken that amount would be included which would raise the price significantly.

I’ve always advocated that we pay criminals that are irredeemable (the lifers who can’t even act accordingly in prison) and pay them $5K to renounce their citizenship. Then we pay somebody like Somalia $15K per prisoner to take them. BAM! I just saved Louisiana $5K per prisoner the first year and another $25K annually.

Having visited the esteemed Orleans Parish Prison and Caddo Parish Jail for overnight drunkery, there's no way they are spending $25,000 per person. I want to see how it's calculated. Does it take every cops salary and throw it in. Like there's a lot to break down heree.

You wouldn’t have popular rap music as we know it if they weren’t expensive.

This looks like bullshite going on in some of those states. There is a catch to this. I doubt it's an apples to apples compairison. MA likely has costs set up that never actually do anything for prisoners. They just can't get rid of state employees.

So the costs of imprisoning a felon are more than the median household income in most, if not all, of these states.
It’s an absolute joke if this image is real.

Someone really needs to do a full study/documentary on where taxpayer dollars go and how they are spent. (And then just hold their fingers that they arent murdered).

These are prison numbers, not disorderly conduct spend the night in jail numbers.

With that said, I do agree with your point. It seems like statistics like these are thrown around with zero fricking context of anything outside of a point trying to be made.
