It just baffles me how a successful professional athlete, who even won the highest trophy in the league, would ever consider doing something like this to earn pennies on the dollar to what $ he actually makes.

You’d be surprised at how many people would drive 100 miles to earn a dishonest quarter when they could have walked next door and earned an honest dollar.

His earnings were about $34m. Take out about half for taxes. He probably had an entire circle of people he was trying to bring up who didn’t bring anything to the table. Not that difficult to blow through $17m when you haven’t played professionally in almost a decade.
