Ironically both are connected to the State of Alabama in that Harris was born in Birmingham and Denver lived in Montgomery when his father was stationed at Maxwell AFB. Denver was always rooted in folk music while Harris was rooted in country. After Gram Parsons death Emmylou didn’t really have a collaborators in LA and moved to Nashville where she linked up with many singer songwriters. Denver did, his, own thing and never tried to break in the Nashville scene.

Emmylou was rooted in folk on the east coast and didn't develop an appreciation for country until Gram discovered her and brought her out west to sing harmony with him.. the rest is history..

Emmylou was very much rooted in folk, it was what she mostly listened to while her brother liked country, so she did hear it. But she played at folk clubs in NYC and Washington DC. Then two of the Flying Burritos saw her in DC and auditioned her to join their band. She agreed, and then they broke up two days later. But the Burritos recommended her to Gram Parsons and the rest is history.
