See that's why I'm asking this because where I am, that would be the last thing to do. You'd get smoked just as fast as the traditional looters. I wouldn't really care who you were, you come into my yard at that point you may not be leaving. But if I was living in Shreveport, I'd expect exactly what you're talking about. That's exactly why people will eventually be leaving the urban centers. It's different everywhere. Some places have tactical advantages based on terrain, population, etc. Other places have inherent risks that can't be easily overcome.

I'm focusing on the Sheriff's department response because I think that's probably the only organization that could help maintain anything like order. The police forces are probably going home. What I'm picturing is the Sheriff's department becoming basically a local militia.

possibly, but the odds of accumulating any like minded individuals that are interested in surviving as a community are basically zero, if you are not in an area that can sustain life and capable of assembling enough people to protect it are almost zero. We all have different needs, some kids, some medical conditions, some that on the surface that will look like good fits...but when the rubber hits the road just about every American is going to look out for number one.
Everyone tells these tall tales of living off the land, etc. And that may work if you are one of the ones that makes it till the end when population numbers have been reduced by huge percentages...without homesteading capabilities and the ability to protect it 24/7/365 for years and years, you will be toast.

so for me, whiskey and bullets.
