quote:Not to mention no fuel for patrols, no courts to process folks, no food to feed em in jail. This thing goes south, everyone will be out there looking out for themselves, not arresting folks for stealing your figs off the trees.
In a true breakdown of society, public employees are no longer being paid, so why would the sheriff even be working and doing his job at this point?
You might hope that a sense of duty would prevail, but I'm not so sure.

See that's why I'm asking this because where I am, that would be the last thing to do. You'd get smoked just as fast as the traditional looters. I wouldn't really care who you were, you come into my yard at that point you may not be leaving. But if I was living in Shreveport, I'd expect exactly what you're talking about. That's exactly why people will eventually be leaving the urban centers. It's different everywhere. Some places have tactical advantages based on terrain, population, etc. Other places have inherent risks that can't be easily overcome.
I'm focusing on the Sheriff's department response because I think that's probably the only organization that could help maintain anything like order. The police forces are probably going home. What I'm picturing is the Sheriff's department becoming basically a local militia.
