I think that Robert Harling (playwright) just wanted a Louisiana sounding name. The location of the story is Chinquapin Parish, which is a fictional version of Natchitoches Parish in north central Louisiana. It’s not in Cajun country.

Entertaining movie up to the point where the girl gets sick. Just like Terms of Endearment. Life has enough of those kinds of situations. Not my kind of movie.
