We'd be morons to cut defense by any amount significant enough to make a difference in the budget IMO.

As far as cutting government employees, do you realize what percentage of all people employed in America are employed by government at some level?

Let's get back to that in a minute.

First, remember how Trump claimed he was going to massively cut down the size of the federal employees and all he did was shuffle it around around a bit? I want to say the net cut was like 2%. After having bragged that he was going to cut it to the bone.

Do you have an opinion as to why he talked such a big game but ultimately did almost nothing about it?

My opinion is that he realized—once someone who knew something about our government got him to be still long enough and listen—that cutting all of those jobs that quickly would literally cause a recession.

I think the number is around 23%, if I remember correctly. Of ALL employees in the US. Employed at some level of government. That's not counting military, btw, just civilians.

Vivek is talking out of his arse just like Trump was and just like people here are when they talk about cutting out entire departments.

It can be done, but it's a 15-20 year plan. Unless, like I said, you want to cause an economic recession. It probably means some version of a plan of eliminating the jobs one by one as people retire and simply not filling them again.

Which means that it would never happen b/c it would need to be sustained over multiple administrations and the temptation to boost re-election employment numbers by simply hiring for those positions you were going to eliminate would be too great.

So cutting 2/3 of bureaucrats is just sucker's bait.
