Its changed quite a lot to a much more liberal board, and the conservatives feel the need to justify their choices, instead of just being honest.
They like the personality and policy is something they can live with.

Who? The few I can think of have no issues with criticizing Trump, even if they're planning to vote for him. The majority change with whichever way the wind is blowing.
