I drive a 2012 Acura that has been paid off for 7/8 years. My maintenance costs have been nil. I feel judged by those who drive high status vehicles, as if I’m not part of The Club.

The Grenadier that I ordered (and am still waiting on) is the first new vehicle I've ever bought. Everything else has been old as shite. frick 'em.

Same here Baw. Bought a Colorado new in 2016. It's been through a rockslide and a few minor wrecks. 149,000 miles on it. 19-20 mpg. Everyone around me driving new trucks.

Vehicles have one goal. Get you from point A to point B. I know a guy who is the mechanical engineering manager at his company.

This is what he drives.

A 1986 suburban. He said his wife wanted him to get a new vehicle years back. Instead of buying a new vehicle he put a new transmission in it. He said he drives it to and from work and to run errands, his wife leases her vehicle. When they go places they go in her vehicle so buying a brand new vehicle or even a decent used vehicle would be a waste of money.

Consider who is doing the judging. Some of the most brand-conscious people I know are wannabes and posers, or first generation money that will probably not translate to second. Not the type of folks you want to measure yourself against.

On the other hand, some of the most driven and awesome achievers I know, as well as the long term money guys, they may or may not drive something really nice but they keep it quiet. Measure yourself against those people and learn from them. They are sometimes quite willing to mentor and guide.

Also driving a 10yo Acura is how you move up. Reliable nice car, deprecation already happened. Rock on man.
