argue for them to use conventional.

You do get that if you're using synthetic you can change your oil less often, right? I would change mine in the garage with conventional for a few years, and I eventually realized that I'd save money by using synthetic and also having the benefit of changing it less often.

You also have the option (at least at Valvoline) of bringing your own jugs of oil, filter, etc., and essentially just paying labor and not having to deal with disposal (in TX, you have to write down your name and address in a log, for some reason, then go to the cage with the oil dump, etc.)

Nephew does mine. About 40.00 oil and filter. And the requisite burger(s) on the grill . He's faster too

Yeah, all you have to do is sit at the dealership and stare at new trucks for far too long. That's the built in feature of "free" oil changes. I massively prefer paying every six months to sit in my truck for under 20 minutes and GTFO. I don't want your free coffee, your cookies, bottles of water, I want to leave.

Euro oil for the ex was one of the reasons I started buying it on my own and bringing it to Valvoline. Even paying for the oil from the shop in 2019 was only $90, including the extra quarts when I didn't supply the oil (base charge $90, extra oil was $17.08, mail coupon subtracted $23.) When I brought my own oil and filter, IIRC the cost was under $40 in subsequent years for labor and disposal.

Valvoline Euro is about $8.60 a quart if you buy more than 4 quarts, and you can get an additional 20% off with subscribe and save direct. So that cost (not including oil filter) could be cut in half, while paying for labor at a local shop.

A lot of people are scared at signing up for subscribe and save deals, but you're either the kind of person that has 11,000 unread emails and reminders you don't pay attention to, or you pay attention. But especially when it's a product that doesn't go bad, when that case of oil shows up, it's your reminder to pause your next shipment for 9 months, and just stash the oil in the garage. I think I had seven massive unopened boxes of toilet paper that got auto shipped from Amazon in February of 2020, but I knew that shite was going to get used eventually.

Those 5 quart combo deals at Advance and such for ~$40 are nice, until you add 2 single quarts for another $13 each.

Buy two 4 or 5 quart jugs and don't get raped on the singles. You just have to do it every 2 or three oil changes.

Someone mentioned disposal, most drain pans have a spout and I just pour the used oil right back in the container it came from and sit it in the corner of the garage until I go the next time to buy oil and haul it into the place I buy it. All the auto parts places around here have used oil drop offs.

Synthetic blend for my Telluride runs between $85-$100 depending on which of the 5 places around the Northshore i take it to. About 70% more than oil changes were when I first got the vehicle in 2020.

Oil changes are gonna have to cost $200 for me to start changing my own oil.

Dumb! It takes me 20 minutes to change my oil. I can’t drive to and back from an oil change place in that time.

We had a place that did that as well but they quit....

I have been able to bring my own filter to Firestone but don't know of anyone allowing you to bring your own oil anymore....

$100 is about right for a dealership

Just expect they will find all kinds of crap wrong with your car that needs fixing and be able to tell them to shove it

1) I got mine changed last week at Hyundai for $80 which wasn't terrible. Thought it would be more. I would guess any random mechanic can do it for cheaper. Like $50-60 if I had to guess.

2) That's one of my biggest pet peeves. Mechanics telling you a million different unnecessary things they say is wrong with your car. Just them wanting more money. Like I came here just for an oil change and maybe a tire rotation. If there are other issues with my car that I need fixed, I will bring it up with you. I don't need to hear your bull shite.

For my truck, about $60 at Walmart. Bought my tires from there and paid a little extra to have the lifetime rotation and balance.

How long does it take you to drive to and fro to dispose of it? Or are you one of those classy baws that just dumps it in the sewer drain?

Yeah around $100 sounds about what I used to pay for the change at Subaru dealer. I recently stopped doing that, and just do it myself now. It’s extremely simple, and clean with the oil filter sitting on top of the engine. Save about $70, and it’s quicker than if I were to drive there and have them do it…and I know it’s done right. The final straw was when they overfilled my oil.

I find that oil change places vary dramatically in price depending on the part of town where they are located. The same chain using the same products will charge a lot more in a nice part of town than the will in a shitty area. Just wake up early on a Saturday morning and hit one in the hood and you will save 40 - 50%

$55 for full synthetic at Walmart. 6 quarts and a filter for my V6 truck.

The brand can be variable but usually, it is Mobile 1 or Castrol at the Prairieville location.
