Magnolia electric company is his best album

I learned Farewell Transmission last night. Played it like 10 times last night. One of my favorite songs ever, surprised I'd never given it a go before.

but I came across the Songs: Ohia song Steve Albini's Blues from the 2002 album Didn't it Rain. Its a pretty melancholic, dark song, but as is the case with any Molina song, beautiful lyrics.

I did a little research to figure out why the song is titled so. It was recorded before Molina ever met Albini from what I read, but Molina respected Albini's workingman approach so much, he wrote the song and titled it that. Speculation is that it was a ploy to catch Albini's attention, and get Albini to work with him.

If that is so, then it totally worked because The Magnolia Electric Co. would be produced by Albini the very next year.

Lyrics:

On the bridge out of Hammond
See them brake lights burning
Feel my motor turnin'
On the bridge out of Hammond

See the big city moon
See how close it comes
See how close it comes

Watch my wiper blades
Pound it like a drum

On the bridge out of Hammond
On the bridge out of Hammond

Think about what's darkening my life
Think about what's darkening my (life, oh-oh-ooh)

See the light of the afterworld
Shining on the ruins (ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh)
Is the love nowhere else?
Burning to the west

See its sulphery shine
See its sulphery shine

From the bridge out of Hammond
From the bridge out of Hammond

See the big city moon
(See the big city moon)
See the big city moon

Between the radio towers
'Tween the big diesel rigs
In a Midwest switching hour
Watch the whole town eclipsed

From the bridge out of Hammond
From the bridge out of Hammond
From the bridge out of Hammond
From the bridge out of Hammond
