The thread isn’t “needed to get by”

All three below are airplane seats that get you by just fine. Are they all “comfortable”? Everyone defines that differently

Chart says 50/30/20.

50% Needs
30% Discretionary
20% Savings

What does Zillow say your house is worth cuz I don’t think a house you bought for 150 is only 200 now when everything else doubled unless you live in a town of 7 people

I personally think that’s a pretty solid definition of comfort

You aren’t getting rich, but you are living a very nice life with little monetary stress. Seems like a very good way to define comfortable wages

People are upset because they are reading this as “money needed to survive”

I’d love to see what constitutes “necessities” to whomever came up with this chart.

You’re also paying a shite ton more. I’d bet the comfortability is slightly marginal and it’s more likely for an over inflated ego or keeping up with the jones effect.

Some things never change

A normal airplane seat is not comfortable for me. Has zero to do with keeping up with the Jones

If I didn’t make enough money for my kids to ever take vacation or do the sports/extracurricular activities they love I wouldn’t be living in comfort, and that would zero to do with keeping up with the Jones either

It’s ok to not view comfort and adequate as the same. Because they aren’t the same….

For a single person absolutely. For a family of four in Dallas seems right

Upvoted because this is true about every State.

$280k gets you shite in NYC, but it gets you all the Dinosaur BBQ you can eat in Syracuse.

$277k gets nothing in LA or SF, but gets you the best meth in Bakersfield.

$190k doesn't go too far in NOLA or BR, but you'd be fine Funroe.

Just to put a real life example here

Mid 30s Dallas married couple with two kids

Wife is a nurse and husband is a manager in accounting. I would say they are living comfortably.

Are y’all actually trying to argue they are “filthy freaking rich” or “killing it” etc?

Because their income is going to fall right about where the number is….

200k in Dallas is not much for a family of 4 assuming you didn’t buy your house 30 years ago

Your money homie if that’s you, do it. It’s likely more ppl flying in the fancy class that can’t afford it and their vacations. They appear to lead these high dollar lives. Or they’re flying on business travel and it’s not their money.
