I’m in favor of people being incarcerated for not carrying car insurance.

What percentage of those insurance lapse fines, would yall guess, are legitimate?

All of them.

Now one could argue the rule is bs, but they are legitimate, and those people are probably driving around with expired dls and no insurance.

I’d say significantly lower unless DPS had gotten MUCH better about processing plates returned to them.

They have because you don’t even need to turn your plates in anymore. You can cancel them online.

It’s one of the good things that came out of the fiasco last time they tried to collect from people in 2017-2018.

Are you also saying you've paid money you didn't actually owe?

Had the damn receipt that the fine had been paid one time, they didn't care, wouldn't do anything about it, went to 4 different DMV's over the course of the day...still ended up having to pay it. Pretty sure I made a thread about it.

Then last time they popped me for a plate that had been turned it.
They won't let you Renew your license unless you pay the bullshite fees. That's how they extort you.

I have a story on this fricking bullshite….

So recently(within the last couple of years) my insurance lapsed. Payments were set on auto pay on a certain card. Well, that card had to be cancelled due to possible fraud. Well, somehow, it fell through the cracks and communications were missed or whatever happened and I missed a month before we realized what was going on.

So ON TOP of insurance renewal I find out that the time there wasn’t insurance on my vehicle, I’m being fined by this backwoods, 1960s hillbilly, crooked arse state. $800 later, I’m finally able to get the red flag off my license.

I’m not sure that there is an office that I despise more than the OMV. If we were ever attacked by a foreign entity with jets and bombs, I hope that building and all of its tentacles are the first ones turned to absolute rubble. Every one of those people can go frick themselves.

You could have just said you're irresponsible and your insurance lapsed and you got caught.

Wrong.

If you move to Mississippi and change your address for insurance purposes, Louisiana will suspend your driver's license and claim you canceled insurance.

That's what happened to me.

I’m moving in a few weeks. What’s the correct way, according to the state of LA, to go about this?

Ive seen it where a person has to make a choice in paying their insurance for the month or putting gas in their vehicle to get to work. Once it lapses and they dont turn in their plate to the DMV the fines start stacking up. So much that they wont ever have the extra income to get their shite straight. Add in being ticketed / vehicle towed for no insurance and they never recover.

But, also frick uninsured motorist that cause the rest of us to have to bare the burden

It's a scam. They sent me a letter saying 4 years ago i didn't have insurance on one of four vehicles for 5 days and are charging me $625 and I have to pay it because I can't renew my license if I don't.

$625

My parents got one in the last two years because they claimed the insurance got cancelled on one of their cars.

Turned out it was because the insurance did some slight of hand to change that from a car on a new policy to treating it as a continuing policy and the dumbfricks at DPS didn’t bother to check that the car still had insurance.

Over the target my freind!

Louisiana OMV is an effin joke!

Went to the OMV a year ago to get a flag removed after changing insurers.

Security guard said that the local office cannot help you.

Literally said to use 2 phones to simutaneously call the service number in BR repeatedly until you get someone on the phone.

Seriously

People gave up on it and must be driving around with suspended licenses.

Way to go OMV!

Dont forget to buy the uninsured motorist rider!

Backazzwards, BS organization.

I'm not sure those retards even know.

Best bet is to get your new proof of address ASAP and go immediately to your new states DMV to dispose of your Louisiana license and get a new license.

Cocksuckers can't suspend your LA DL if you don't even have one.

My in-laws in Ga borrowed my 3rd car for a few months. Instead of using my insurance they added car to their insurance so I canceled mine.

State of Louisiana charged me over $1,000 for the car not being insured. When I spent time proving that the car was never uninsured for even a second, they said inlaw’s insurance company was not on their vendor list so I still had to pay.

It’s ripping off their own citizens.

90% or more of this $400 million is bullshite racketeering made legal by some BS law. People will move out of the state before paying these “fines”. I can’t blame them. Louisiana government ruining its own state ever chance it gets.

Took an out of date trailer plate into LC office to get right. Gurl said I needed to pay $450.00 and I told her no Fukn way would I pay that. She called a conference with three other dead heads. Guess she told them about our convo since they would peek around the wall occasionally.
Comes back and tells me $80 will fix the problem. One Benny and I’m out of that shite hole with a new plate.

If they actually did their jobs in person, this wouldn't be a problem. Live by automated solutions, die by manual responses.
