I suspect Oscar’s roommate Gil was gay too.

One of the best characters in the previous version was gay, so as long as they are well written, WGAF

I liked Oscar and he was a good character, but I don't know if I'd go as far as "one of the best".

Either way, I'll give this a shot. I love The Office too much not to at least check it out. If it's half as good as the original it'll be the best network comedy in years.

As others have pointed out its pretty clear what happened.

Daniels had an idea for a sitcom based in a midwestern newspaper, and the studios said "We will make it if you slap "The Office" on it"

Senator Lipton

"How do I know that Robert is gay? He liked my facebook photos at three o'clock in the morning."

A real interesting side note to the Senator story line is the relationship that is forged between Angela and Oscar because of it.

Angela to Oscar "you were supposed to be my friend", and then Oscar letting her live with him after she split with the senator and was raising her child was pretty real TV.

It seems *too* close to what the Office did, following a dying industry as it tries to change and adapt.

Would be neat to see something on the other end of the spectrum with a new startup business, but I guess you can get your fix in with Silicon Valley there. Though SV doesn't have the mockumentary angle.
