quote:Nihilism doesn't have to speak to pessimism or optimism, at least not in the sense of personal outlook or feeling. It more speaks to meaning and purpose. You can feel optimistic while seeing the world, life, and all actions as ultimately meaningless just as you can be quite pessimistic while acknowledging meaning in the world. I know nihilism is often associated with pessimism, but I'm focusing on the philosophical side of it in regards to truth, meaning, and purpose.
his post is quite the opposite of extreme pessimism.
It sounds like this person is saying that there is no actual, objective purpose or meaning to life, so each person should find meaning where they can and run with it, doing what makes them happy because this life is all there is. That's the "typical humanistic nihilism" I was referring to.
