Georgia beat LSU in the opening game of the tournament to eliminate LSU. LSU made the NCAA Tournament. Georgia didn't. In fact, LSU wasn't even one of the "last four in" that year. This, despite the fact both teams had identical SEC records (13-17) and nearly identical regular season records. That SEC tournament win head-to-head did absolutely nothing for Georgia. Nor did it hurt LSU at all.
