Considering that most of the members of the '72 Dolphins are now in their 70s? Probably. I think the question you need to be asking is this: what would it look like if the 1972 Miami Dolphins could somehow be time warped to the present while in their primes and given the same sports science advantages modern athletes enjoy today? Even then...you have to take into account the fact that both teams are playing two completely different sports.

In a time warp game, the worst team in the NFL in 2023 would beat the frick out of the 1972 Dolphins.

Minus the S&C and scheme advantages, the US population in 2000 was nearly twice what it was in 1950 when all these guys were born or young. Also, college teams are a hell of a lot better at finding talented young athletes and getting them on campus. Hell, the Univ. of Alabama didn’t even have its first black player until 1971. I’m sure many talented individuals with major college or NFL potential in the ‘60s and early ‘70s slipped through the cracks due to a lack of exposure or opportunity.

Twice the population plus being better at identifying players equals more talented rosters. Throw in 50+ years of S&C and scheme evolution and even the elite college teams (2019 LSU, 2020 Bama, etc.) would beat the shite out of the 1972 Dolphins.

Yale fans are so obnoxious about that 1894 team. Face mask jokes get old.

2019 LSU would have gone 17-0 easily with the new expanded playoffs.

Unless I’m mistaken, with a 12 team playoff in place in 2019, LSU would have been a top four seed and gotten a bye. They would have only had to win 3 playoff games on top of the 12 regular season and 1 SEC-c.

So I’d say they only way a team goes 17-0 under a 12 team is to be a non-P4 school.
