Needs to be kicked in the nuts

Whatever dumbass catching “coach” started this trend is an absolute moron. I have seen it from high school and college this year and almost every catcher is doing/being taught this. On one knee with runners on base limits mobility, blocking, and throw downs and it’s been evident all season long for LSU.

Neal also does private lessons for the Knights travel program so it’s also being taught by him.

Let me guess. Your son, Stryker or Baylan or Braxton, used to be the starting catcher for the Knights 11u team. Now he exclusively plays right field.

Yep, and our man Skip hates it just as much as we do.

It’s been years. Started as a way to take a focal point away from the ump and supposedly get more called strikes. I’ve searched and have never found the proof.

Really, I think it that was an excuse to protect knees and extend mlb catcher careers a couple years.

You would think one knee already on the ground would limit passed balls

100% agree. It’s lazy and you can’t block shite on one knee. It makes zero sense.

You sound like the same kind of guy that thinks shooting 3s is a bad idea and teams should go back to focusing on mid-range jumpers.

Perhaps the data shows that shooting more 3s leads to more team points.

While the data shows every LSU catcher being pretty, darn bad at blocking balls in the dirt when starting on one knee.

Tony Pena was one knee down in the 80s.im sure guys before that were doing it.

Shitty catchers can't block. It has nothing to do with their knee being down.

The first catcher I remember doing this was either Benito Santiago or Sandy Alomar with the Padres back in the day. They sort of got away with it because they could throw runners out from that slouching position.

I’m sure it’s easier on the knees but clearly limits the ability to block wild pitches and/or throw runners out.

They used to do that with no runners on base. Once a batter reached first base, they got off their knee.

That's how I coached it.

Also catching BPs it's much more relaxing to drop the left knee to the ground.

With I played little league, I caught and wanted to be Tony Pena, so I stuck my right leg out lol

There is a lot of data that one knee down w a kickstand is an advantage on borderline calls, receiving, better blocking on balls in the catchers box by about 25% and no signifiant change in pop time

Also shows that the improvements are a net run gainer for your team.

What about the way our catchers give the target, then they drop their mitt to the ground, and then bring it back up fast to catch the ball?
What is the purpose of doing that?

All the cool guys in MLB are doing it, so it must be the best way. All the catchers in the history of baseball from 1870 - 2019 were neanderthals who knew nothing.

Same with those ignorant middle infielders who used to play at double play depth with a runner on first base for all of those years instead of shifting around the diamond so that a double play is now impossible.

That may be true for a few catchers but your telling me that our catchers are better at blocking balls in the catchers box this year by 25%. What games are you watching. Multiple pass balls through the wickets have cost LSU dearly, simply because we can't get our glove down in the correct manner. The amount of strikes you so called "Steal" in college will never amount to the number of bases/ runs you allow with multiple pass balls with runners on. Please rewatch the game last night and tell me Neal is an elite receiving catcher from a knee.

There are undoubtedly catchers that can operate on a knee they just don't play at LSU.
